Local Governing Body
The governing board of Nazeing school is a board of 10 people drawn from the local community. We work with the senior leadership team to set the ethos and strategic direction for our school. With the senior team, we develop the annual School Development Plan and monitor progress against the aims and objectives set.
We want Nazeing school to be an inclusive, safe and supportive environment for all who attend - children, staff and visitors alike. We want to ensure that all children receive a broad, well-balanced, knowledge rich education, which allows them to develop their own unique talents and be recognised for their efforts and achievements. We ask our staff to do this through an exciting and challenging curriculum which we regularly review and support for impact and success. We have high expectations of all members of the school community and expect all to work together to achieve our aims.
We want children to be ready for the next stage of their lives when they leave us, confident in their abilities, aware of their strengths and resilient to the challenges that will lie ahead.
The Role of the Governing Board
The Governing Board is responsible for the conduct of the school, and must promote high standards of educational achievement. It is the school’s accountable body and as such:
- Provides a strategic view of the school by establishing a vision and setting the purpose and aims of the school within an agreed policy framework. It appoints and performance manages the Headteacher, agreeing the school improvement strategy which includes setting statutory targets with supporting budgets and staffing structures;
- Monitors and evaluates the work of the school by reviewing the performance of the Headteacher, the effectiveness of the policy framework, progress towards targets, and the effectiveness of the school improvement strategy;
- Plays an important part in the school self-evaluation process and responds to school improvement service and Ofsted reports as necessary. In addition it holds the Headteacher to account for the performance of the school and ensures that parents are involved, consulted and informed as appropriate, with information to the community being made available as required.
In order to do this, governors need to gain knowledge of how the school operates through training, by attending meetings, and by getting to know the school community, for example through a small number of visits to the school during the school day. Governors need to work together as a team, under the leadership of the Chair of the Governing Board.
Meeting Structure
The Governing meets 5 times per year. All governors are linked to areas of our school development plan to effectively monitor our progress against school objectives. Governors arrange monitoring visits to school and classrooms focusing on key priorities so that they can see how the school is addressing issues identified for development. In addition, informal visits to special events such as drama productions and sports day are encouraged.
